Its Bold, Its Capital… ITS BAD?
Written by Anurag Bhateja on January 5, 2010 – 11:52 pm -Writing in either bold or CAPITAL or BOTH is becoming one of the favorite activity these days in netizens. I have seen many people following the practice of using these three features in whole text. Now, while talking on Internet, when we want to emphasis on something, we normally use features like bold/italic/capital letters etc but how sensible is it to write the whole text like that?
Let me give you some examples here.
e.g. 1:
In the following example only one word is in bold letters. This signifies the importance of the word and tells that the person writing the note want to emphasis on that particular word.
Hi Abc,
It was really nice to meet you today. The whole day was full of fun and whole credit goes to you. Especially the visit to Lake was awesome experience.
Thanks for making my day.
With Love,
Xyz
e.g. 2:
In the following example, whole text is in bold. No one can distinguish which part of the text has more importance and which does not have.
Hi Abc,
It was really nice to meet you today. The whole day was full of fun and whole credit goes to you. Especially the visit to Lake was awesome experience.
Thanks for making my day.
With Love,
Xyz
e.g. 3:
Here its called yelling over Internet. Saying anything in capital is just yelling. ANY NEED HUH???
HI ABC,
IT WAS REALLY NICE TO MEET YOU TODAY. THE WHOLE DAY WAS FULL OF FUN AND WHOLE CREDIT GOES TO YOU. ESPECIALLY THE VISIT TO LAKE WAS AWESOME EXPERIENCE.
THANKS FOR MAKING MY DAY.
WITH LOVE,
XYZ
e.g. 4:
Here its YELLING WITH FULL FORCE. The worst example of sharing thoughts. Think yourself, if the words can be told in simple manner what is the need to say it so LOUD??
HI ABC,
IT WAS REALLY NICE TO MEET YOU TODAY. THE WHOLE DAY WAS FULL OF FUN AND WHOLE CREDIT GOES TO YOU. ESPECIALLY THE VISIT TO LAKE WAS AWESOME EXPERIENCE.
THANKS FOR MAKING MY DAY.
WITH LOVE,
XYZ
The same thing applies when you comment somewhere like on Facebook, Orkut, Flickr, any social networking site/forum or on some Blog. Now what you need to keep in mind while writing in public.
- Never use bold for whole text. It really does not look good and it conveys the message that you want to get attention. Never show such attitude.
- Never use capital letters where it is not important especially in mails and comments on blog. It is just yelling in public and no one like the on who always yell.
In many places writing in bold or in capital letters is considered as yelling and rude. Following such behavior will leave wrong impression in long run. Go ahead and spread your words but better stay on your own limits.

Its “Other”
Written by Anurag Bhateja on November 13, 2009 – 8:57 am -I should call this a good news for the “Kinnars” living in India. The election commission has announced that all the forms and other government papers will now have a column for them in “sex” as Others. As M is for Males, F for females, forms will have O as the third check column.
Is there any need? Yes, there is. As per my thoughts it is for their self esteem and their identity. Till now, they have to define themselves as either male or female which they are not. They have right to live, right to express themselves and live like we do in this society. Giving them a separate space to define their identity will not only help them to grow more and grow easily but also will help others to understand there needs.
Normally we see them singing and dancing around for food and money but this step may help them in getting exposure to more fields. Not only a moral booster, this step of Govt will bring them near to the system.
I hope this will become a landmark in Indian system and jurisdiction.
