Is Your Name In Your Hand?

Written by Anurag Bhateja on October 24, 2008 – 12:44 pm -

Confused? Please do not get confused. From last two years, I am looking it as a trend in market to get your name as a domain name. But what is the importance? Can we make more money with it? Does “Adsense” or other advertising solutions like “Chitika” like domain name on the name of people? No, this can’t be the reason! Then why so much enthusiasm in registering my own name as domain name?

Lets see what happens when you are active over the internet in any case like you are a blogger, teacher, player, actor or whatever, people start searching for you or you can say start ‘Google!’ing about you. Even if I come to know across a name which claims to be famous in some field I try to Google his/her name.

My friends often ask me why I write “Google Me” in my signatures on some places like social websites. I simply say just go and try me on Google! ( http://www.google.com/search?q=anurag+bhateja ) Being owner of AnuragBhateja.com and running a blog on it, its very easy to trace me and get in touch of me.

This, not only help one in making himself/herself a brand over the internet, but also help in increasing business and this will make you a trustworthy name being present on Internet openly. Its not important that you should only “write a blog” or put only about you over the Internet. Bloggers like Amit Bhawani offer great source of information where as I blog about me, my life, my interest, use blog to overcome my frustration (sometimes), write movie reviews I see and also write some tutorials on photography or even on how to live a bachelors life :P.

Many big names like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan have their names as domain name and also few newbie actors like Tanya Abrol (Chak De Fame), Anjum Batra (Coming in a Comic role in a movie which is launching in December 2008).

No matter what you do, what you like/dislike, if you spend time on internet like an addict or spend a very small span of time over the Internet, you want just an online diary or want to run a full time earning source over the internet, your name as your domain name can be a BIG boom for you. After all it’s just a matter of $9!!! Go ahead and get your name before anyone else do who share same name as you are already late!!!!

For boosting you up have a look on few websites:

See what others have to say:

Amit Bhawani – A web developer from Hyderabad is a SEO Expert and updates his blog every day on a schedule.

In the beginning i registered this domain name just to make sure i have my identity registered on the web because my projects starting moving bigger and i wanted to make sure that my personal name is under my control and no other competitor can take advantage of my name. Recently i completed a year full of blogging on my blog after which there were numerous people who started using their personal names and registering domain names.

There are multiple advantages other than making money from them, like branding which means instead of having a normal Business/Personal Card you can have a card, you can have your personal domain name also listed there which adds up better value and makes it more professional, check out my personal card.

You can see in the above business card that i have more preferance to my domain name because thats my online identity and anyone should recognize me with the domain name and then find me there where i have all my information like about me page, contact details etc.

Another advantage would be that you would be in the top of the search engines which is very important for long term because there are many chances your enemies/business competitors would try to defame you. If you search for my name in the search engines like – http://www.google.com/search?q=Amit+Bhawani you can find that most of the top results are related to my own name and hence it would be bit harder for scammers to rank for my name because i have setup my identity over years.

Another important points worth considering would be to have a good about page with legit/real info on ownself because it builds trusts among your readers. If you read my about page – you can find that i have written about how it all got started and what i currently do, this way some people even contact you for business opportunities.

Check out this link to know more on important points for writing a about page – http://www.thewwwblog.com/about-page.html

Hope this small guide would be beneficial to you for building a personal name brand and why personal domain names have a great value. PS – Last month AmitBhawani.com got a offer of 80000$ isnt it exciting that a 10$ costing domain name can get such huge offers?

Himanshu Khagta: Photographer, pro blogger and web developer.

Your name as a domain will not generate much interest in search engines unless you type your own name, but still I think its important. You can improve your reputation by using it everywhere and its also a style statement sometimes. Like when sometimes people ask for your email address, you can give cool answers like, “You can find it on my website, blabla.com [http://blabla.com] !” or you can always use a professional looking email address when you’ve bought your own domain. Mine is himanshu@khagta.com , its google enabled and I can use any service from google like gtalk etc with it. This is different, because anyone can us gmail or yahoo or msn in their email id’s, but you own domain email is different.
