Right To Die — But Why or Why Not?

Written by Anurag Bhateja on December 12, 2008 – 6:47 am -

A small research on keywords like “I want to kill myself”, “I hate myelf”, “how to commit suicide”, “ways to die”, “right to die”, “I want to die”, “pro suicide”, “real suicide notes”, “ways to commit suicide” and some other, I was litterally shocked to see the number of websites providing information on how to die!

There are so called pro-helpers who will guide some innocent people who are frustrated with their lives and want to kill themselves. Methods like poisoning yourself, cutting nerves, rope hanging, gun shot or even getting yourself suffocated is well explained. The biggest shock for me was no Search Engines have ever tried to stop these websites to comeup in their database. Anyway, they are bound to provide information which can not be controlled in many cases.

This all shows many people want to die. But why? Some people are in favour of “Right To Die” and so do I. Yes, I am in favour of individual’s “Right to die” but there is a thin line in thoughts. As per me, one who:

1. The person is suffering from a severe physical or mental pain with no prospect of relief.
2. Some organ or whole body is so much damaged that it is not recoverable.
3. The person who want to die do not have anyone who may help and do not have any courage left to live with tensions.

But I don’t favour those:

1. Who just want to die because they want to die.
2. Failed in exams.
3. Failed in love.
4. Don’t think they can live happily.
5. Feel they do not have enough money to live in luxury and want to die.
6. Those who are not happy with their families.
7. Those who think, they have made a big mistake and do not have “Right to live”
8. Lastly, those who got mislead by some stupid people and want to die for religion.

The only thing I want to say is, if anyone who is suffering from such a pain which can be reduced or such a disease which can make life really miserable then he/she should have right to die but if they life can be continued with a hope that everything would be fine, then he/she do not have right to end the beautiful gift by God.

“As per Hindu Religion, a soul gets chance to be in a human life, it has to live life of 8.6 million different spieces.” God has given this life to save other spieces. So you can make a difference in this world and you should make it rather than killing yourself for some stupid reason like failing in exam or love.

Also some very great people suffer from diseases in their lives but never bothered and lived for others. People like “Ramkrishna Paramhans” who had cancer and “Stephen Hawking” who is suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

So be happy and live happy. Suicide is not the way out if you can live.

“As per Hindu Religion, a soul gets chance to be in a human life, it has to live life of 8.6 million different spieces.” – thats the most ridiculous thing ive heard in times.

If a person values something that he/she thinks is worth dying for then he / she should do it if they badly want to. Please keep religion out of death. If someone wants to die its their business. If you do not want someone to die then you better buy them what they want that will make them live. Buy them property, women/men, wealth whatever else that is they need. If you cannot do that then you have no business asking people not to die. The bagvadh gita can go take a hike for all i care.

I’m looking at some of the things and they seem to be so valid to me a reason not to exist.

    2. Failed in exams – come into a forward caste / brahmim family. If you fail an exam (public exam for example) you don’t get to go to college. Forget failing, anything less than 90% and you do not get a college seat. No college education means no good jobs to have and you live like a loser. Better die than suffer for the rest of your life. Very valid reason to die mate.

    3. Failed in love – what more do you want? your love life is screwed. that explains all of it. if you are convinced you cannot get love then there is no point being a loner. dying is a great option to end the pain.

    4. Don’t think they can live happily – plain english my friend, if you cant live happily, die. simple as that. who wants to live SADLY? do you, do i? im sure none of us do.

    5. Feel they do not have enough money to live in luxury and want to die – while this is too much of a exaggeration i do feel this sometimes happen. if your life’s ambition is to live rich then u realize you cannot do it, better die. no?

    6. Those who are not happy with their families – family they say is the foundation of life. if a family setup is messed up then yes, living is pointless. think about bad families who make life miserable.

    7. Those who think, they have made a big mistake and do not have “Right to live” – how about religious leaders who were responsible for genocide, how about hitler who killed himself, how about serial killers who have issues they cant deal with that they kill themselves?

Basing your morals on religion leads to hallucination. If you logically look at death objectively, this is nothing new. Animals do it all the time in the wild. No one is endangered by someone else dying. In fact we can help with less head count on earth.

I agree that 8.6 million thing is kind of ridiculous. I must appriciate the reasons you gave in favour of “right to die”.

People like Hitler and other like serial killer should be killed they don’t have even right to die peacefully. Those who spread terror, without having a look into who they are and from where they belong they must be killed in a such a way that no one in future should dare to do same thing. “They don’t have right to die but they have done to be killed as brutal as possible”

Don’t you think there is a hairline difference between humans and wild animals? Although I agree they take hell lot of care of nature which we always screw.

The thing you have said about 90% or failed in exam, what about people who are not much “educated” but still are full of courage and living life above all. I know education is must but self gained experiences matter more.

Love, can be described as the most beautiful feeling one can ever have. But life never ends with a single or even 2-3 broken relations. A very good friend of mine lost her 1st love at age of 20, divorced at age of 27 and now she is again getting married soon! If you meet her she has a lot to say, lot to make you laugh and forget everything which may let you down in life. Killing yourself just because of sake of “Love” is like being coward. I believe there is always someone better made for you!!!

Anyway, thanks a lot for your time and comment. I love the way you explained your views!

“People like Hitler and other like serial killer should be killed they don’t have even right to die peacefully” – Anuragh, you are an animal. So am i one. This statement proves your survival instinct. If humans were not wild animals, humans would not kill for someones wish concerning death.

You are totally WRONG on capital punishment. Capital punishment does not deter anyone from committing the same crime. Why are you a hindu anuragh? You already know christians killed so many non christians (340 million approx) rivals during the holy wars. Yet that does not deter you from being a hindu. 2 million hindu pandiths were killed my muslims in kashmir. Yet you are a hindu. Why? Are YOU not proof enough that captial punishment does not work?

I care a not about your friend, i dont want to meet her or any one else like her. Like i said, please look at things objectively and dont make things subjective. Not everyone is equal. Not everyone has the same survival instinct. The weak die easily thereby letting the strong live. By making a way for the weak to live you are working against nature and demoting the health of your species.

Your friend is an example of a competent animal in the hominoid family. The ones unlike your friend who want to die are inferior ones. Nature has its way of eliminating the unfit and make better a species. As humans our mode of communication is far ahead of other animals, thus we call it suicide. In essence whats happening here is the course of nature.

Suicide is a personal choice. There is absolutely nothing for anyone to have a stake or claim on anyone else’s personal choice for that matter. Not you, not me, not my great grandfather who might have had the biggest willie or the loser who wants to die who barely has a willie. It’s a personal choice.

Like how religion, even though is stupid and god does not exist and there is no proof that he works on prayers, we still read the gita, the quran and the bible which says the earth is flat, sun goes around the earth and sun and moon have a light of its own and earth is below the ground and heaven above the clouds.

We know all these things are falls. We’ve drilled 18 miles below the earths crust and all we saw was fossil and beyond that there is molten lava. No demons executing anyone. Same with heaven. We’ve sent rockets to mars and radio telescopes that can look upto several billion light years away from us. We still never found heaven.

But that does not stop people from praying or calling anyone who believes in a god and religion as a fool. Why? Because its a PERSONAL CHOICE. I have no say what you must do with your moustache. Shave it, trim it or color it blue, cuz its your choice.

Living, Dying, Giving birth to a kid or aborting it in the 1st trimester is all a personal choice. If you claim stake in someone’s personal choice the only message you send across is that you are trying to control the other person according to your will. In other words, it used to be called slavery and it no longer exists. Pro life, pro living, pro conservatism is all passive forms of slavery in the current day.

    Hi Dilip,

Wow! Man you are too good in explaining your points. See I am not against killing yourself or can committing suicide, but I am against doing it without thinking of yourself in coming future.

I know you have nothing to do with my friend hehe.

I am not saying anything about Capital Punishment. I respect all religions and believe in being “Hindu” but not like those who are making fun of religion these days.

I completely agree living, dying, giving birth, aborting is all personal choices but sometimes personal choices should be taken care of a lot as personal choices may harm ourselves in future.

I believe in life and let live and if someone is not letting you live, KILL!!!

I have survival extinct and know humans are also animal and most brutal of all.

Everyone has their own choices and I just presented my views so do you!!!!

“but not like those who are making fun of religion these days” – small correction here mate. I don’t just make fun of religion, i also persecute it and prosecute religion. The point is religion cannot defend itself. Anuragh Bhateja is a nice guy. Anuragh will defend himself with logical evidence if someone accuses him to be a mean guy. Religion cannot. Religion is for mean guys (like bal thackery) to make a jackass out of nice guys (like anuragh) and keep them under control.

So as long as anuragh is kept tamed and he does not question why bal thackery is raping women wearing jeans and t-shirt and organizing bomb blasts in pakisthan, bal thackery will live. The day anuragh says “fuck this religion, why are you killing people” thackarey will take to his heels.

Btw, that was just an example, nothing personal against you or bal thackarey. You fit my idea of mr. nice guy and bal thackarey the perfect scoundrel.

Suicide is not killing. Suicide is taking and destroying ones own rightful property. Live and let live is all fine but nobody accused you of killing someone. People want to kill themselves because they are unable to find ways to live.

Dont look to the gita or the bible for moral recourse mate. They have you confused terribly. Look into the 7th standard matriculation syllabus biology book. That’s a fantastic lesson on morality. Its called “Evolution”

  6. By Anurag Bhateja on Dec 12, 2008 | Reply

I don’t feel that you have said anything pointing to me… example was good! I have read about evolution in my matriculation and I believe in science a lot and as far as religion is concerned I have my own choice and you have yours. I feel relaxed chanting “OM” or thinking about “Shiv”.

I am against those people no matter from which religion they belong, who try to force anything on common man. I saw people having banner asking “Where are you Mr.Raj and where is your ‘Sena’?” after Mumbai Blasts. This is what these so called “Dharam Ke Thekedar” are doing. Simple divide and rule. They can not suppress my emotions or thoughts about anything no matter it is related to regular days or even big issues like AIDS or Sex or even Homosexuality.

I believe everyone has right to do anything what they want but still everyone has different opinions and thoughts over different subjects.

I really dont get people who kill themselves just because of something.Totally unreasonable.

  10. By akira07 on Oct 16, 2009 | Reply

Suicide, for any reason, is forbidden on any religion. So i’m always think people who do suicide is stupid. There is another solution to solve their problem then just make it ended by die.
