TRAI? DND? Who care!!
Written by Anurag Bhateja on April 18, 2009 – 10:20 pm -First let me make myself very clear that I am not the one who do not obey the orders of TRAI under which bulk SMS, SMS marketing and calling for marketing should not be practiced if the subscriber has registered for DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.
Now from last few weeks I am continuously giving my advertisement in newspapers’ classified section so that I can get a boom in my business but unfortunately many unwanted SMS and calls come after such ads. Big names lik ICICI, Reliance, Airtel, etc and a bit small groups which claim to be BIG like Indo Global Consultants etc. are doing this INTENTIONALLY and disturbing people in between their working hours.
Now I am so pissed off by the at of such companies that I have decided to put everything on my blog with their numbers and if possible names of the person who called/messaged me as I do not think they will stop spamming as they think this is their BIRTH RIGHT.
Today is 19 April 2009 and the following is the list of numbers and messages which I received today.
1. Phone number : +91-9988136702 : TEXT MESSAGE received on 18th April 2009 at 03:03:14 PM IST.
Text message goes like: Personal Loan, Home Loan, Plot purchasing, Construction, Take over, Lap, Business Loan. All loans from Nationalized / PVT banks. Call me.
2. Phone number: +91-9878722933 : TEXT MESSAGE received on 18th April 2009 at 6:37:51 PM IST.
Text message goes like: Earn Rs 1000 to 35000 Per case. Become associate & refer students for MBBS courses in Russia, Europe, China. Courses very economical & recognized by MCI. for more info call us. Indo Global Consultants P. Ltd. Mohali.
>> My reply: Who allowed you to spam? (Sent around 20 minutes after receiving the massage)
>> Reply from Indo number: This s nt spam. This is a business proposal. If u r not interested simply delete the msg. Thank u. (Received at 8:15:55 PM)
>> My reply: Yes it is spam. The mail/sms which is unwanted is spam. (Sent immediately after the message)
>> Reply from Indo number: We send more than 1000 msg daily and more than 50 associates r working wid Indo Global. This is our job and also in benefit of students. Ok. Gud nite. (Received at 08:21:59 PM)
>> My reply: Read rules of TRAI. You can be in trouble 4 unauthorized telemarketing. Better delete my number frm your list. (Sent immediately after the message is received)
>> Reply from Indo Number: There is no list containing ur number.. And u kn there cn be a legal action to disturb persons after job hrs. Read labour laws carefully. Never send me msg again. This is nt my job timing.
Now this message really pissed me off. The person who sms me sent the message after 6:00 PM. SATURDAY IS MY OFFICIAL OFF DAY. I DO NOT WORK AFTER 5 PM IN ANY CASE!! He is tell me that I messaged him after working hours lolz. Now lets get the list of telecallers.
Oh! Airtel is getting on my nerves because they are calling me every day non stop at least twice a day to sell me AIRTEL BROADBAND though I am using THEIR internet connection from last 4 years!!! I have requested them not to call, scolded them not to call and then even abused them on calling me again and again for same stupid reason but they do not have self respect at all.
1. Number: 01724608066 :: Claimed to be calling from AIRTEL HEAD OFFICE PH 1 INDUSTRIAL AREA CHANDIGARH. Called me at 03:45 PM when I was watching a movie with my friend as it was my off day and I was trying to relieve my tensions by enjoying the movie. But that bloody stupid girl called and messed up with my day. OOO I AM IN BIG TIME ANGRY MOOD. They think I can not say anything wrong to a girl as this is against ethics but they do not know I CAN BLOG ABOUT THEM.
My intensions are very clear. From now on every SPAM CALL OR SPAM SMS will be blogged. I will teach them a lesson. Sooner or later they will relaize that spamming is not accepted in any case at all.

We are Bulk SMS Service Providers to companies and corporates. We understand your problem and our compassionate about the privacy of mobile subscribers. Hence we do not provide any ‘databases’ or lists to our clients to send out such spam and are compliant with the NDNC policies.
On a personal note, we think spamming and sending out SMS’s of such nature is only going to spoil the ‘mobile marketing industry’ since it has now been labelled as ‘The Cheapest and Most Penetrative Marketing Method’. What people forget is – that it is so only if you’re working with your own lists and not randomly senidng out SMS’s to people you dont know. The NDNC has implemented a new policy from the 1st of Feb 2009 that every Commercial SMS sent from such Web Portals will be prefixed by 2 characters – the Operator Code and the Area/Region Code. For example, AD – implies Airtel, Delhi and then the 8 characters ‘Sender Id’ of the Sender.
This way you can actually call your respective operator’s customer care and tell them the full name of the sender and they can very well trace out the actual Bulk SMS aggregator or sender of the SMS.

Anurag, I assume you have already tried filing complaints with your service provider (that is what the TRAI guidelines say).

I am interested in knowing if you got any response from them? Did the SMSs stop? Have you escalated the issue with your mobile service provider?

Yes I have. There is remarkable difference in last few weeks but also I have stopped giving advertisement for my business in newspaper. I am going to redo the advertisement thing next week so the real effect will be visible only after that.
