Have you ever googled your name?

Written by Anurag Bhateja on April 8, 2009 – 9:58 am -

Try it! Why? Because if you are present online in any media which can be crawled by a search engine, you might be in first few results of Google. These days searching telephone directories is a old times thing. Whenever someone needs some info about any person, he/she is searched over the internet or you can say Googled!

In a very short span of time yourname.com and profiles on facebook like places have made it really easy to track a person if he/she has added original information and not the fake one. Although, for some people its like entering in the privacy of someone but for those who are using this media for their own promotion, its the best way.

Websites of great actors, performers and other people are very famous among their fan following and those who have registered their name as domain name, are getting fan following. Many websites like twitter, stumbleupon, facebook, myspace, orkut, flickr, digg etc have made online presence and searching for a person very easy.

The new TLD .tel has introduced online visitng card whoe example can be seen here http://anurag.tel . So wake up, register domain on your name or get a .tel atleast! and mark your online presence.

Domain Name Registration — Some Points to take care about

Written by Anurag Bhateja on February 28, 2008 – 1:34 am -

This is tech-age or you can say web-age. The easiest and most convenient way to communicate with people all around the world is to have a website/blog related to your work. Now if we are going to have a website the 1st thing that we will require is a domain name. Domain name can be defines as “Unique address identifying each site on the Internet, usually of two or more segments separated by full stops.” There are billions of companies/individuals who are providing the domain registration services but while buying a domain name it is essential to keep some main points in mind:

Who sell domain name is not a matter to discuss but the thing is who the registrar behind the registration of the domain is. ICANN is the sole body who controls .com, .net like domains and .in and .co.in are controlled by Indian Registry. All these sole bodies have appointed Accredited Registrars all over the world who sells the domains. Many organizations and companies or even individuals become resellers of these registrars and serve the general public.

  1. Now while buying a domain you must know:
    1. Who is the accredited registrar if the company/individual is a reseller?
    2. What domain extensions are open for you and at what cost. For e.g. a .com domain may cost you anywhere between Rs.375/- to Rs.450/- depending on the policies of the company.
  2. You should keep in mind while searching for a domain name:
    1. Never go for sites to search domain availability which you don’t know. Many cases have been reported against a big company as they register domain names which they feel are good and can be sold for good cost, immediately after you search for it.
    2. Try to go for top TLDs like .com, .in, .org so that it is easy for people to remember the domain name.
    3. Try to avoid long domain names.
    4. Avoid offbeat domain names i.e. no relevance to your work/company.
  3. While registering a domain you must own:
    1. All the domain ownership rights. These rights include the whois to be on your name.
    2. You must get a domain panel so that in future you can manage/edit/move the domain details.
    3. You must receive an auto generated receipt for the records. Some companies also provide printed bill and a certificate of domain ownership.
  4. If in certain case you want to have a privacy protection, there is no need to put wrong information but you should opt for privacy protection service which is totally free of cost.
  5. Many companies charge more say Rs.600/- and give you unwanted services like domain forwarding. Domain forwarding is used when you are going to redirect the domain to another website. If you have no plans of redirecting the domain then you can save up to Rs.200/- per domain by avoiding such services.

If we take care of some small facts it will be easy for us t handle the domain name more easily.Happy Surfing.
