Make Your Life Easy With Filters (Yahoo Mail Filters)
Written by Anurag Bhateja on May 1, 2009 – 9:28 am -Thousands of professionals are using e-mails for their professional and personal use. Maximum of us use single mail ID for both the purposes. We subscribe to feeds, newsletters and a lot of contacts send us regular mails. Its always better to sort them out in folders but managing hundreds of mails daily is a hectic job and a lot of our precious time is spent in managing mails.
Very few of us are aware of the fact that each and every mail client is offering “filters” so that on delivery the mail will get sorted out on its own. If we spend only three minutes per filter, we can save hell lot of time as the mail client will send the mail to perticular folder or will add a label to it as soon as it is delivered into your mail account.
The following steps are for those who are using Yahoo! mail in their daily life. Filters are very easy to create. Just follow the steps and try them out.
- Login to your yahoo mail account. Please make sure you are using classic version of Yahoo! mail as till date filters are not active in new version.
- Go to options >> mail options from the top right corner of your mail account.
- Click on filters from the left panel.
- Click on create or edit filters.
- Click on Add.
- Fill the form. Now the main part comes here. First give it a recognizable name. Then think of the mail ID, subject or some other field or a combination of fields to create the filter. For e.g. if you are receiving mail from me on daily basis you can write “mailme@anurahbhateja.com” in the from section and can move my mails in a folder name “Anurag”. This will move all the upcoming mails in the folder and you can check them anytime you want. Another example is if you have subscribed for recent activity in Flickr then you can add Flickr in subject while creating filter and move it to the folder named “Flickr”. Everytime a mail comes from flickr, it will move to the folder named “Flickr”
- Click on Add filter.
You are done! Now the mail will be delivered to the folder you have chosen as soon as it is delivered in to your mail account.
