Save Your Contact List From Spammers

Written by Anurag Bhateja on May 9, 2009 – 7:06 pm -

Forwarding mails is FUN! Right? Yes, it is and friends do forward mails to their friends. The first question I would like to ask is how you do forward your mail? The 90% of people will answer in same line “I click on forward button, enter the saved mail IDs from address book and press the send button! This is so simple! Just like eatingĀ  cake ;).”

Now just have a look on the image.

What is happening here is whenever you forward a mail, the address will remain visible to everyone whom you are sending and also to those to whom the people will keep on forwarding.Imagine what will happen if those mail IDs go into the hands of spammers. Do not think that spammers will never get access to this list as someone will surly forward the mail to a person who spams regularly and you just can not deny this fact.

Now to save the address book from exposure to spammers there is a perfect tool from the very begining of mailing system known as BCC (Blank Carbon Copy). Any address filled in BCC field will not be dispalyed to any of the receiver. In this way you will save your address book from spammers.

E.g. of BCC text box in Yahoo mail.

E.g. of BCC text box in Gmail.

Confusion Over “Re:” in mail subject

Written by Anurag Bhateja on March 13, 2009 – 11:18 am -

If I am recalling it correctly, I am using e-mails since 2002 when I was in Abohar. From that time whenever I reply to someone using Yahoo! mail (it was the only mail clinet known to me), it automatically adds “Re:” to the subject. Till date I do not find proper meaning of this “Re:” thing.

Now after doing some search over the internet, I found the following meanings:
1. It is abbrevation to latin phrase “In Re” which means concerning something written before.
2. Re: is used as reference. (The best possible meaning as per my thoughts.)
3. Re: means reply. (Most of the users think the meaning is reply!.)
4. Re: means regarding.

I think this confusion will persist till I die!

Why I Prefer Yahoo Messenger Over Gtalk

Written by Anurag Bhateja on December 30, 2008 – 7:34 pm -

Although, I use both for chatting, but I prefer Yahoo Messenger over Gtalk. I don’t understand why people use gtalk. I find yahoo messenger more interactive and also yahoo mail has more options than that of gmail! I know many people will disagree. Lets get the points I want to make over the issue that why I like Yahoo more.

1. In yahoo messenger I have the option to get invisible for selected people but in gtalk no such preference.
2. In yahoo messenger I have emoticons which I love the most as I am addicted to use them. Anyone who is in my yahoo list knows how much I use them.
3. In yahoo mail I get folder option!!! gmail people should do something about it.
4. In yahoo messenger I can transfer files faster than gtalk (as per my experience)
5. In yahoo messenger I can make groups for people in chat.
6. In yahoo messenger I have option to send group messages.

If this is not enough, go and keep using gtalk.

Anyway, the following are my chat IDs ;)

I prefer :) : anuragbhateja[at]yahoo[dot]com
I have to use :( : anuragbhateja[at]gmail[dot]com
