Make Your Life Easy With Filters (Gmail Tutorial)

Written by Anurag Bhateja on May 2, 2009 – 7:43 pm -

In my last post I explained how to make the mail sorting easy with filters. Now its turn for the Gmail users. See, I do not personally suggest to use Gmail because of many drawbacks it has but still many of us just LOVE gmail. Anyway, unlike yahoo you can not make folders here (Phew!). You have labels for fulfilling the purpose but all the mails will remain in your inbox. Follow the steps and make the filters work for you.

1. Login to your Gmail account.
2. Click on link named “Filters”
3. Click on “Create new filter”
4. Fill the form. Like if you want to filter the mail from my ID i.e. anuragbhateja@gmail.com you can add it to filter from section and the mails will be filtered. In the next step you can choose to add a label to it and it will be done.

5. Now click on next step. See the illustration for the explanation of the check boxes. The best part of Gmail filters is that the filters will be applied to already delivered mails also. You can choose to skip the inbox, mark mail as read, star it, apply some label, forward it to another email, delete it or never send to spam or more than one also.

6. Click on “Create filter”.

You are done. In just 6 steps you will now be relived from the stress of sorting out the mails. Enjoy :)
